Cnoc ThruBottle

I grabbed the Cnoc Outdoors ThruBottle 1L squeezable water bottle as a reusable Smartwater replacement for my backpacking filter setup. It fits perfectly with my Sawyer Mini filter and slides into the same side pockets I already use.

Cnoc ThruBottle Review

I picked this up as a replacement for the classic Smartwater bottle setup most thru-hikers use. First impression is that it fits perfectly with my Sawyer Mini filter, no leaks, no weird threading issues. That alone makes it worth it.

It’s almost identical in size to a 1L Smartwater bottle, which means it slides right into the same backpack side pockets and shoulder strap holders without changing your system.

For weight comparison: my Smartwater bottles are 36g empty with the label on and 38g without the label for “dirty” water. These bottles are over 3 years old. I’ve reused them a lot, and I clean them regularly with flask cleaning tabs. They’ve held up surprisingly well. The ThruBottle weighs 83g (2.93 oz) with the blue pull cord/tether, so it’s a bit heavier, but it’s hard-sided, squeezable, durable, and fully filter-ready.

From initial handling, it feels noticeably more durable than disposable bottles. I’ve only just received it, so I can’t fully speak to long-term durability yet, but it definitely feels sturdier out of the box.

My only current minor downsides: I usually use one labeled bottle for clean water and one unlabeled for dirty water. Since this doesn’t have that built-in visual difference, I’ll need to mark one with a sticker or something. I would also like an optional sports cap on it, which I noticed CNOC sell on their website. I’ll update my ThruBottle 1L squeezable water bottle review once I’ve used it more.
