The Smartwool merino base layer bottoms are made with midweight interlock-knit merino wool that provides warmth, breathability, and natural odor resistance. The interlock knit enhances comfort and helps regulate temperature in cold, mild, or variable winter conditions.
The fit has been updated with new side seams and a curved back seam to reduce sag and excess fabric. A merino-covered elastic waistband and chafe-free flatlock seams improve comfort for long days of wear and overnight use.

This Smartwool thermal merino bottoms review is based on how I personally use them in winter. I wear the Smartwool thermal merino bottoms underneath my convertible Sahara pants for extra warmth on cold hikes, and I also sleep in them when camping or backpacking.
They add noticeable warmth without bulk and stay comfortable all day and night. I love these bottoms overall, but I did find the sizing ran a little smaller than expected, so I sized up for a better fit when layering and sleeping.
