XeroCloud Rain Jacket

XeroCloud Rain Jacket uses a supple, 3-layer laminated fabric that moves with your body rather than resisting it. It drops the stiff, heavy feel of standard rain gear in favor of a soft jersey backing that feels comfortable over a T-shirt, blocking wind and heavy storms while allowing internal heat to vent.

A 3-layer HydroWall waterproof membrane keeps steady downpours out, while a PFAS-free water-repellent finish forces rain to bead and roll right off the surface. This keeps the jacket from getting heavy and waterlogged during hours of continuous rain.

For steep accents and high-output climbs, the mechanical stretch fabric works alongside articulated elbows and raglan sleeves so you can scramble or plant trekking poles naturally. The back-adjustable hood features a laminated visor to keep rain out of your eyes without blocking your peripheral vision.

Weighing 11.3 ounces, this shell packs down small and stuffs entirely into its own left-hand pocket. Hook-and-loop wrist cuffs and an adjustable hem drawcord let you seal out cold drafts, while a zippered chest pocket and two hand pockets keep small trail items secure and close by.

Built with sustainability in mind, the recycled nylon and polyester face fabric is bluesign® approved. The shell is put together in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory, supporting fair wages and safe working conditions for the people who manufactured your gear.

REI XeroCloud 3L Rain Jacket Review

While this isn’t the exact rain jacket I own, it’s the closest modern equivalent to my discontinued Westwinds GTX Jacket. What I absolutely love about this jacket style is the addition of underarm pit zips; that extra airflow makes a massive difference on the trail so you don’t end up drowning in your own sweat. They actually keep you properly dry from the inside out. The armpit vents zip easily, and the built-in visor is excellent for maintaining visibility when the rain is coming down hard. The adjustable velcro cinches at the wrists are also perfect for sealing out the elements.
